On March 12, 2012, the Pequannock Township First Aid and Rescue Squad held a ceremony to dedicate the squad’s meeting / training room in memory of former residents and squad members Tom and Mary Brath. In attendance for the ceremony were family members as well as current squad members.
Between the husband and wife team of Tom and Mary Brath, they had volunteered a total of 57 years to the squad and the community.
Former member Mary Brath was a thirty-two year member of the squad where she had served as President for five years. Mary rode with her husband as a crew and was involved in teaching CPR classes to the squad and community.
Tom Brath, Jr. was a twenty-five year member of the Pequannock Township First Aid and Rescue Squad where he served as President for 5 years, Captain for 6 years, as well as Vice President and Secretary. He was a member and narrator of the Diving Accident Team for 20 years. He also was an instructor for the Red Cross, American Heart Association, as well as an instructor and course coordinator for the New Jersey State Department of Health for 10 years and an instructor trainer for 8 years. In addition, Mr. Brath was the Morris County Coordinator for 7 years. In addition, Tom Brath, Jr. was named Pequannock Township Citizen of the Year in 1983.
Many former members of the squad attribute the success and foundation of the squad to the involvement and dedication of Tom and Mary Brath.

PEQUANNOCK
– Services will be held for Tom Brath Jr., 83, of Milford, Del., who died on
Monday, January 23, 2012. He was a former resident of the Pompton Plains
section of this community.
Born in Winthrop, Mass., Mr. Brath lived in Pompton Plains before moving to Milford. He was the vice president of human resources for the Crane Company for many years. Also, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was an honorary member and past president of the Pequannock Township First Aid and Rescue Squad, serving for 25 years. Also, he was an honorary member of the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad. And, he was named Pequannock Township Citizen of the Year in 1983.
During his twenty-five years with the Pequannock Township First Aid and Rescue Squad, Tom Brath, Jr., also served as Captain for 6 years, as well as Vice President and Secretary. He was a member and narrator of the Diving Accident Team for 20 years. Arrangements are by the Lofland Funeral Home, Milford. Entombment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Pequannock Township First Aid and Rescue Squad or to the Salvation Army.
Mr. Brath is survived by his sons, James of Pompton Plains, and Tom of Barry Lakes; his daughters, Carolynn Tomin of Naples, Fla., Debbie Anest of Boonton, and Jacqueline Ricker of Haskell; his sister, Jacqueline LaRochelle, of East Springfield, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary McLean Paton; and his parents, Thomas and Inez.
A Memorial service will be held on March 3, 2012 , 11:30 at Pompton Valley Presbyterian church - 60 Sunset Rd. Pompton Plains
